Caloosa Lakes is a mixed use project on Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres.  Saundry Associates, Inc. purchased the land and obtained all of the entitlements necessary for development.  About half of the land was originally zoned for single family residential, with the other half being in a commercial overlay district.  We had an economic study done of the entire Lehigh Acres community, and were able to demonstrate that this location was more suitable for residential than the large amount of commercial that was recommended in the overlay district plan.  Accordingly, we were able to obtain zoning that allowed a more realistic combination of residential and commercial.  The property is currently being developed by D. R. Horton, one of the country s largest homebuilders.
